Best Time to Visit Antalya: Weather, Crowds, and Prices by Month
With a reputation for enjoying 300 days of sunshine a year, it’s easy to assume there’s no bad time to visit Antalya. While that is mostly true, the "best" time to visit depends entirely on what you want out of your vacation.
Are you looking to bake on the beach in scorching heat, or do you want pleasant weather for hiking ancient ruins without fighting massive crowds? Let’s break down the weather, crowds, and prices across the four seasons to help you plan the perfect trip.
1. The "Sweet Spot": Autumn (September – November)
Ask almost any frequent traveler or local, and they will tell you that September and October are the best months to visit Antalya.
- Weather: The extreme heat of summer begins to fade, but the daily highs are still a very comfortable 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F). Most importantly, because the Mediterranean sun has been baking the water all summer, the sea is incredibly warm and perfect for swimming.
- Crowds & Prices: The massive school-holiday crowds disappear. You’ll have an easier time getting a table at your favorite restaurant in Kaleiçi, and flight and hotel prices begin to drop significantly.
- Best For: This is the ultimate time for a balanced holiday. You can comfortably lounge on the beach in the morning and hike the ruins of Olympos in the afternoon without overheating. It is also the ideal season for booking a relaxing Adrasan Boat Trip without the boats being packed to the brim.
2. The Peak Season: Summer (June – August)
Summer in the Turkish Riviera is legendary, but it is not for the faint of heart.
- Weather: It is hot. Very hot. Temperatures regularly sit between 35°C and 40°C (95°F to 104°F) in July and August, accompanied by high humidity.
- Crowds & Prices: This is the absolute peak season. Hotels, beaches, and attractions are at maximum capacity. Expect premium pricing on flights, all-inclusive resorts, and car rentals.
- Best For: Those who strictly want a "sun, sea, and sand" vacation. If your plan is to stay by the pool or in the sea all day, summer is perfect. To beat the heat, we highly recommend booking cooling water-based activities like the The Land of Legends Theme Park or white-water rafting in Köprülü Canyon. Sightseeing walking tours during the middle of the day are strongly discouraged.
3. The Explorer's Paradise: Spring (March – May)
Spring is the season of blooming flowers, green landscapes, and comfortable sightseeing.
- Weather: March starts cool, but by May, temperatures reach a glorious 25°C (77°F). The catch? The Mediterranean Sea hasn't warmed up from the winter yet, so swimming in April or early May can be quite brisk.
- Crowds & Prices: April and May (outside of Easter) are fantastic for budget travelers. You can often secure luxury hotel stays for a fraction of their August prices.
- Best For: History buffs, hikers, and active travelers. This is the absolute best time to walk the famous Lycian Way, discover the travertines on a Pamukkale & Hierapolis Tour, or explore massive archaeological sites like Aspendos and Perge without suffering from heatstroke. Book an Antalya City Tour to comfortably see all the highlights.
4. The Quiet Winter (December – February)
Yes, tourism does slow down in winter, but the city doesn't close.
- Weather: Winters are very mild compared to Northern Europe. Daytime highs average around 15°C (59°F). While you won't be sunbathing, you can still enjoy sunny, crisp days, though rain showers are common.
- Crowds & Prices: The city belongs to the locals (and a growing number of digital nomads and long-term retirees). Prices are at rock bottom. Many coastal resort towns (like Kemer or Side) feel like ghost towns, but Antalya city center remains vibrant.
- Best For: Budget escapes, golf holidays in Belek, enjoying thermal spas, and experiencing local Turkish culture without the tourist sheen.
Summary: When Should You Go?
- Best for Swimming & Beach: July, August, September
- Best for Sightseeing & History: April, May, October
- Best for Budget Travelers: November through March
- The Overall Winner: October (Warm sea, pleasant air, fewer crowds!)
